The occurrence diabetes and other side effects when using Lipitor and its generic, Atorvastatin, have led to changes in label warnings of potential mild- to severe-side effects. Lipitor and Atorvastatin fall under the statin classification of drugs. The Food and Drug Administration's new statin drug warnings include the risk of brain-related side effects, including memory loss and confusion, and increased blood sugar levels and the risk of Type 2 diabetes. The FDA did however state that liver injury is rare, and routine monitoring of liver enzymes is no longer needed.
