Emotional Child Abuse
Full Video Transcript
Emotional child abuse, also known as psychological abuse, is a pattern of behavior by parents or other adults and caregivers that significantly interferes with a child's emotional, social or psychological development or self-worth. Emotional abuse can consist of intentional acts, such as verbal assaults or threats that terrorize the child but is can also consist of unintentional acts or neglect. Emotional abuse is often difficult to prove and, therefore, child protective services may not be able to intervene without evidence of harm or mental injury to the child. Emotional abuse is almost always present when other forms of abuse are identified.
