How To Become A Section 8 Landlord

Full Video Transcript

The Section 8 rental voucher program is a government-subsidized housing program allowing low-income households to access affordable housing. Under the Section 8 program, families pay a portion of the rent and the government pays the rest up to a certain amount. The roles and responsibilities are set forth in a contract between the public housing authority, the landlord, and the tenant. If you would like to rent to Section 8 tenants, you should inform the local housing authority that your property is available and also indicate in your advertising that you welcome Section 8 voucher holders. The property must pass the program's quality standards inspection and be maintained up to those standards as long as the owner receives housing assistance payments. In addition, the landlord is expected to provide the services agreed to under the lease signed with the tenant and the contract with the housing agency.
