The right to freedom of expression includes any act of seeking, receiving, and imparting information or ideas regardless of the medium used. Freedom of expression consists of the rights to freedom of speech, press and assembly and to petition the government for a redress of grievances, and the implied rights of association and belief. The first amendment has been interpreted by the Supreme Court to apply to the entire federal government, sometimes including Congress. The due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment protects all First Amendment rights, including freedom of expression, from government interference.
