Rape is defined as forced sexual intercourse, including elements of both psychological coercion as well as physical force. Forced sexual intercourse means vaginal, anal, or oral penetration by the offender or through the use of a foreign object such as a bottle. Rape victims can be male as well as female, heterosexual or homosexual. Rape isn't just when a stranger attacks but is most commonly perpetrated by the victim's friends, acquaintances, boyfriends or husbands, ex's or family members. Most rape cases still go unreported. When reported though, perpetrators can be charged with serious crimes. While prosecution of rape cases have improved over the years, date rape and intimate partner rape are unfortunately difficult cases to pursue. To best protect your legal rights, consult medical, legal and other professionals experienced in rape matters.
