Any foreign national falsely claiming to be a United States citizen may suffer harsh consequences under U.S. immigration laws. A false claim to citizenship can occur if you intentionally registered to vote, knowing that this is a privilege only of citizens, filled out an application at the state government office governing motor vehicle licensing and registration, or similar other applications as a U.S. Citizen. Also, changing or marking on an I-9 work form indicating citizenship is a serious offense. A foreign national falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen be placed in deportation or removal proceedings and barred from becoming a permanent residence of the United States.
