The antipsychotic prescription medication Risperdal is intended to treat patients who suffer from disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or autism. The adverse side effects of taking Risperdal are vast and include causing diabetes, strokes, stroke-like events and even death. There have also been links between taking the drug and developing the potentially fatal syndrome called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, as well as the central nervous disorder Tardive Dyskinesia.
A condition known as non-physiological gynecomastia, which is essentially breast tissue development brought on by taking medication, has also been discovered in adolescent males who take Risperdal. Other side effects may include heart problems, bone loss, weight gain and sexual disfunction.
Whenever you take a serious drug like Risperdal it’s important to consult with your doctor so you understand all the risks associated with taking the drug. If you take the drug and later develop a side effect you believe wasn’t properly disclosed, talk with an attorney about your legal options.
