A power morcellator is a small surgical tool used in hard to reach areas of the human body. Unfortunately, many experts believe women who have uterine cancer risk the cancer spreading when a power morcellator is used during myomectomies, which is the removal of uterine fibroids, and hysterectomies, which is the removal of the uterus. In April of 2014, the FDA issued an alert discouraging the use of power morcellators in either procedure. One of the biggest fears during these types of surgical procedures is that uterine cancer is often undiagnosed before a woman undergoes an operation. A doctor may therefore unwittingly help spread a potentially fatal disease during what should be a routine procedure. The risk to the woman is enormous, which has resulted in deaths and lawsuits being filed. If you or a loved one underwent a procedure where a power morcellator was used that resulted in serious complications, consult with an experienced personal injury attorney today.
