What Is An Executor Of An Estate

Full Video Transcript

The executor of an estate is the person named in the will of the deceased as the person in charge of [administering] the will and ensures that the person's final wishes are respected. An executor is also responsible for making sure that property is properly disbursed according to the will, collects and arranges payment of debts, and makes sure estate taxes are calculated and paid. The executor will hold legal title to the estate property, but at no time may the executor use the property for his or her own benefit unless it is permitted under the terms of the will.
