Even though in America we have some of the best health care in the world…. tens of thousands of people still die each year due to medical malpractice. Malpractice mistakes often happen during surgery or if the wrong drug is prescribed. Some studies show that one of every 100 people hospitalized becomes a victim of medical error.
If you've recently suffered an injury related to medical treatment, whether caused by a doctor, a nurse, a pharmacist, or other healt-care worker, you may be wondering if it amounts to a legal claim. To have a valid legal claim, your injury must have been caused by some negligent act on the part of the health-care worker. Did you receive an improper diagnosis of your condition? Did a doctor fail to properly evaluate your symptoms? Has another doctor or other expert told you that a prior doctor shouldn't have prescribed a certain treatment? Or has a medical procedure you were told would be relatively minor turned into a nightmare due to complications nobody expected?
Proving negligence can be pretty complex, so you should speak to an experienced medical malpractice attorney right away if you think something might be wrong. Don't delay. First, your health is too important, and second, your condition should be evaluated as soon as possible to best determine its cause.
